Cofounder and artistic director of the Moulin à Musique, Marie-Hélène da Silva has a diploma from the Université du Québec in music studies and pedagogy. She grew up in a family for which theatre and music lay at the heart of education, and she is a pioneer in making theatrical musical shows for youthful audiences. Her peers, the critics, and the public at large recognize her as an innovator in encouraging children to discover music.

A violinist, actress, and teacher, she has participated in the creation and interpretation of numerous shows produced by Le Moulin à Musique such as Un violon sur l’épaule (Winner, Opus Prize 1997), La Maîtresse rouge and L’aube (both Finalist, Opus Prize 2002). With her company she has made numerous tours in Canada, France and Belgium. In 2004 she added to her list of achievements the writing and directing of Bonne Nouvelles. Finally, in 2006, she created Garde-robe, the latest production, with the complicity of Francis Colpron, Artistic Director of Les Boréades de Montreal and Joël da Silva, Artistic Director of Théâtre Magasin. Since the foundation of the Moulin à Musique, Marie-Hélène da Silva’s work has been dedicated entirely to a youthful public.
