Marie-Hélène da Silva

Has participated in
Cofounder and artistic director of the Moulin à Musique, Marie-Hélène da Silva has a
diploma from the Université du Québec in music studies and pedagogy. She grew up in a
family for which theatre and music lay at the heart of education, and she is a pioneer
in making theatrical musical shows for youthful audiences. Her peers, the critics, and
the public at large recognize her as an innovator in encouraging children to discover
music.
A violinist, actress, and teacher, she has participated in the creation and
interpretation of numerous shows produced by Le Moulin à Musique such as Un violon sur
l’épaule (Winner, Opus Prize 1997), La Maîtresse rouge and L’aube (both Finalist, Opus
Prize 2002). With her company she has made numerous tours in Canada, France and
Belgium. In 2004 she added to her list of achievements the writing and directing of
Bonne Nouvelles. Finally, in 2006, she created Garde-robe, the latest production, with
the complicity of Francis Colpron, Artistic Director of Les Boréades de Montreal and
Joël da Silva, Artistic Director of Théâtre Magasin. Since the foundation of the Moulin
à Musique, Marie-Hélène da Silva’s work has been dedicated entirely to a youthful
public.
