Karina Gauvin

Has participated in
Karina Gauvin came to international attention upon winning, in 1994, the lieder
prize as well as the public’s prize in the 40th edition of the
’s-Hertogenbosch International Vocal Competition in Holland. In 1995, she
captured first prize in the 28th CBC Radio National Competition for Young Performers.
After graduating with a first prize at the Montréal Conservatory of Music, where she
studied with Marie Daveluy, Karina Gauvin continued her studies at the Royal Scottish
Academy of Music (Glasgow) with Pamela Bowden. Karina Gauvin has given recitals at the
Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), the Bishopsgate Hall in London, and has sung The
Fairy Queen by Purcell in Oxford and at the Aldeburgh Festival. Winner of the
Maggie Teyte Memorial Prize (London 1992) Karina Gauvin was recently chosen as Soloist
of the Year by the International French Radio Community. In Canada, she has sung with
the Montréal Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and Les Violons du
Roy. Karina Gauvin is recipient of the Virginia P. Moore prize attributed by the Canada
Council for the Arts.
