Following studies in trumpet at the Regional Conservatoire at Reims and the Paris Conservatoire, he taught this instrument at the Reims Conservatoire while working in that city’s “Grand Théâtre” orchestra. During this time, he also perfected his notions of music writing skills.

His experience on the trumpet along with his affinity for the older repertoire naturally led him to explore the cornetto, which he studied during workshops with Jean-Pierre Canihac. He continued his tuition on the instrument with Bruce Dickey at the Basle Schola Cantorum. He has played and recorded with Hesperion XX, Concerto Palatino, Ton Koopman, Andrew Parrott, and René Jacobs.

From its founding until 1993, he performed with La Fenice, with which he won first prizes at the Bruges (1991) and Malmö (1992) competitions. A guest of many ensembles, he now directs the Concert Brisé.

He teaches improvisation at master classes in music institutes of higher education, in such cities as Bremen, Vienna, Lyons, Munster, Brussels, and Barcelona. In addition to the inclusion of improvisation in several concert programs of the Concert Brisé, he has explored this path in many new ways with the likes of Night Watch and Capella de la Torre (Renaissance wind ensembles), as well as with Broken Quartet (two jazzmen and a pair of HIP musicians) and more freely with musicians such as Louis Sclavis and Michel Godard.

He now teaches cornetto at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva and at the Lyons Conservatoire.
