Seasons > 2005-06 Season > Concerts > Bach à l’orchestreThursday May 4, 2006, 8:00 pm Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours400, rue Saint-Paul Est [métro Champ-de-Mars], Vieux-Montréal, Québec Overture No 2, Sinfonias, and Concertos Especially when compared to that of his friend Telemann, Bach’s orchestral output was relatively small. It comprises four overtures for orchestra, and a little more than 20 concertos for various instruments written for the court of Prince Leopold at Cöthen, and for the public concerts of the Collegium Musicum of Leipzig. This is probably only part of what he actually produced. The beautiful sinfonias with which several cantatas begin probably come from lost works, which today are being ingeniously reconstituted. |
