By the time he was 20 years old, he was already a member of the <em>Musique du roi <\/em>of Louis XIV, who had a great deal of respect for him. Famous for his talent on the bass viol, he was also renowned for his teaching skills. He published five collections of pieces for that instrument throughout his life, and in 1692 he published a collection of trios for traverso, violin and treble viol, showing Marais\u2019 repertoire for court concerts. As a performer, he was known particularly for his ability to enhance the instrument\u2019s resonance. Marin Marais was considered by his peers to be one of the greatest viola da gamba players, the other one being Antoine Forqueray.\u00a0 <em>\u00a0<\/em>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][icon_text box_type=&#8221;normal&#8221;
