This concert presents the ever-seductive music of two great Italians, one from Naples, the other from Venice. Their concertos, for the violin, traverso, or oboe, are just as charming, fresh, and immediate now as when they were written. Both composers left music that is lyrical and expressive. That of the Venetian violinist Antonio Vivaldi enchants by its vigor, ardor, and virtuosic affirmation, while that of Alessandro Scarlatti, who grew up under the Neapolitan sun, is characterized by its sensual and colorful vocalità.
