Les Boréades de Montréal are preparing a major project: *Atys*, an exceptional production that will mark the culmination of our 30th anniversary. Presented as part of our 2026–2027 season, this co-production will be the fourth and final show in an anniversary program celebrating three decades of music and creativity.

American composer Jonathan Dawe, known for work that bridges Baroque style and contemporary language, and director Stéphanie Jasmin, who works at the intersection of literary, theatrical, and visual languages, take on Lully and Quinault’s opera to create a new musical tragedy set in the political landscape of the United States in the 1980s.
This production—a collaboration between the Ballet Opéra Pantomime (BOP), the Opéra de Montréal, Les Boréades de Montréal, and UBU compagnie de création—combines dance, video, and Baroque reverie to capture eras in which romantic passion, power, and the conflict between private life and public image continue to clash.
In the early 1980s, in the upper echelons of American politics, Governor Atys hides his impossible love for Sangaride, the young man who is to marry Senator Célénia. The president, Cybèle, hopes to draw closer to Atys, with whom she is infatuated, by appointing him vice president. But when she discovers the secret passion that unites the two young men, the president deploys all her powers, even the most occult, to bring about their downfall and plunge them into madness and death.
