Why should I support you?

Francis Colpron
Artistic director
First of all, because it’s our party … we’ll be in our thirties in 2026 and that’s a milestone, and we need your help to avoid a crisis!
On a more serious note, for almost thirty years now, we’ve been offering an annual season of 3 or 4 concerts designed to introduce Baroque composers, showcase their works and promote our musical heritage …. concerts that we hope to keep at prices accessible to all. To pass on our know-how and passion, we have founded an academy to provide intensive courses and advice to young musicians and enthusiastic amateurs. The academy will be 10 years old in 2026!
Our hallmark is also creativity and daring, as demonstrated by our multidisciplinary projects such as Transtaïga, De la pavane au Swing and Atys qui s’en vient … Les Boréades is also involved in the community, energizing its neighborhood and reaching out to new audiences … We really want to pursue our mission, concoct new and ever more innovative projects, forge new partnerships, ….
And that’s only possible if you support us … well, it seems that culture isn’t essential, so government grants and subsidies are dwindling …. more and more.
So, what do you say? Will you join us in this wonderful exploration of Baroque music?

Who are the Boréades?

Les Boréades … ?! What is ??
Les Boréades de Montréal is a baroque music ensemble whose musicians play on period instruments. Based in Lachine and founded by Francis Colpron nearly 30 years ago (and yes, it’s our birthday soon!!), the quality of its concerts has been hailed by critics both abroad and in Canada.
Baroque …! I’ve never heard of it …
Yes, you do … only you don’t know it! Vivaldi or Bach … they speak to you, that’s for sure – if not, go listen, you’ve already heard! Baroque music was composed between the end of the 16th century and around the middle of the 18th century. Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi are the most popular composers … Works by Telemann, Handel, Lully, Buxtehude and many others can also be heard …
And who is Francis Colpron?
Francis is the fantastically brilliant artistic director and founder. He’s also a baroque star in his own right …. compare if you like – he’s the Mick Jagger (only younger) of the flute! He’s also an epicurean at heart, and loves to cook…

The Academy of Early Music
Co-founded by Les Boréades and Les Concerts de la Chapelle, the Académie offers intensive three-day training each summer, enabling amateur musicians, music students and professional musicians to deepen both their knowledge of the Baroque repertoire and the playing techniques specific to their instrument.
Each participant benefits from 23 hours of professional coaching, mainly in one of five groups under the direction of one of the experienced musicians/teachers, members of the ensemble Les Boréades.
